The Dolomites, Unesco World Heritage Site

The Dolomites, Unesco World Heritage Site
From 26 June 2009, UNESCO has officially listed the Dolomites as one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. This region has always fascinated mountaineers and famous authors such as Dino Buzzati, Mario Rigoni Stern, Josiah Gilbert and Amelia Edwards.
The UNESCO label embraces nine dolomitic mountain groups including our Pale di San Martino. The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), appointed by UNESCO to verify that the criteria for being listed as a Natural World Heritage Site are met, has approved the Dolomites because of their unique geological, botanical and landscape features. For these extraordinary natural and aesthetic characteristics, the Dolomites, including the Pale di San Martino, are considered a Universal Heritage Site, among the 50 most beautiful landscapes in Europe and among the 199 most beautiful landscapes worldwide.
