In Gothic style, it was largely built by workers in the area's mines. Their markings are still found on jambs, door arches, windows and in particular on columns.
Built in 1493 to a design by an architect whose name is unknown, this church dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta has always been the "Pieve" of the valley. Recent excavations have led to the discovery of other earlier churches: the first, a large early Christian basilica, dates back to the 5th-6th century BC. The current church, in Gothic style, was built by workers, called Canopi, employed by the Counts Welsperg, largely workers in the mines of the area. Inside, you can see the very high bell tower with valuable frescoes and the Baroque altars, among which the miners' altar stands out for its grandeur. Also splendid are the organ from 1900 and the paintings depicting sacred stories. Always open to the public.
