Waking up, solving problems, finding solutions, completing that endless series of tasks that every day threatens to overwhelm us.
And then again waking up, solving problems, finding solutions, completing that same list of commitments, which in the meantime (it seems impossible!) appears to have grown longer.
If this is more or less the mantra that accompanies your days, it means that, without a doubt, daily stress has pushed you beyond your limits. If you are looking for a simple and effective remedy to change course, take some time and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the forest—you will be amazed by the immediate feeling of well-being that this experience will bring to your body!
No popular beliefs, no suggestions
It has been scientifically proven that a walk in the forest is a real cure for the mind, the brain, the heart, and above all for the immune system. Through Forest Therapy and Forest Bathing (known as Shinrin-Yoku in Japan), you will achieve relaxation and positive effects on every level. Each step will bring you closer to a state of perfect harmony with nature and immerse you in a fantastic world made of long silences, broken only by your breath, the cheerful songs of forest creatures, and the lively flow of a mountain stream. These harmonious sounds, accompanied by an unmistakable scent of wood, moss, and resin, will heal the wounds of your body—and even those of your soul!
You can choose to experience this on your own, with others, with Nordic walking poles or barefoot, to take a longer route or simply lie down on a soft bed of moss and let yourself be caressed by the rays of the sun filtering through the branches and treetops, in silence. Would you like to try it? Here are three forests where you will feel literally reborn.
Forest of the Violins (Paneveggio)
This forest is known worldwide for its centuries-old resonance spruces. Even the great luthier Stradivari used to immerse himself in the atmosphere of this forest, spending entire days searching for the precious red spruce wood with which he crafted his famous violins. Once you reach the visitor center of the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Natural Park (dedicated precisely to this forest), you can follow the Marciò Trail, an easy circular nature path that winds through the woods and includes a spectacular passage over a suspension bridge spanning the Travignolo stream gorge.
Trail of the Giant Firs (Val Noana – Mezzano)
This forest is an extraordinary and wild place, full of ancient trees—red and white spruces, but also beeches and yews—whose majesty (many exceed 50 meters) will leave you speechless! To admire these centuries-old trees up close, there are two different routes: a short loop of about one hour and a longer itinerary that takes around two and a half hours. The longer variant will lead you to the pastures surrounding Malga Val de Stúa, a panoramic spot offering breathtaking views of the Feltrine Peaks, the Pale di San Martino, and the Lagorai mountain range.
Forest of San Martino di Castrozza
The woods surrounding San Martino di Castrozza are lush and full of history. Along the ancient paths winding through the surroundings of this Alpine capital, travelers and wanderers have passed over the centuries, armed with courage and determination, facing long journeys to cross the Alps. One of the best routes to explore this area is certainly the Sentiero degli Orti Forestali, an easy one-and-a-half-hour itinerary that starts from the town center and quickly immerses you in the forest atmosphere. Nature, as always, comes to your aid—but sometimes she needs your help too! On October 29, 2018, Storm Vaia uprooted and broke more than 4,000,000 cubic meters of trees in Trentino, leaving deep wounds in our landscape. Thanks to the Trentino Tree Agreement project, you can make a pact with the trees and become a guardian of the forest of the future!
