A walk in the woods is also an opportunity to pick mushrooms, which you can then cook for a fragrant and tasty dinner. There are some rules to follow to avoid unpleasant or even dangerous situations:
- Pick only mushrooms you know. In Primiero, there are no mycological centers for mushroom testing. It would therefore be a shame to throw away all the mushrooms you've collected for fear of finding some that are inedible in the bin. Even more dangerous is to consume mushrooms whose edibility is uncertain.
- Do not destroy mushrooms considered poisonous; they too are useful to forest life!
- Find out about areas where mushroom picking is permitted. Within the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Natural Park (the boundaries of which are signposted along the access trails), mushroom picking is permitted only to residents of the Province of Trento, who hold civic use rights.
- Pick mushrooms during permitted hours: 7:00 am to 7:00 pm
- Respect the maximum daily quantity: 2 kg per person over 10 years of age
- Clean the mushrooms briefly on site and transport them in rigid, perforated baskets.
- Obtain a picking permit
MUSHROOM PICKING PERMIT:
- The permit is personal and allows picking within one of the two areas into which the territory is divided: the Primiero Valley (municipalities of Primiero, San Martino di Castrozza, Mezzano, Imèr, and Sagron Mis) and the Vanoi Valley (municipality of Canal San Bovo).
- The permit can be valid for one day, three days, a week, a fortnight, or for a period of one to three months (depending on the municipality).
- Depending on the municipality, the mushroom picking fee can be paid:
- By payment to the Municipal Treasurer
- At an ATM or at a Cassa Rurale Valli di Primiero e Vanoi branch (excluding discounted permits)
- Through the PagoPa system
