Barefoot hiking is the practice of walking in nature without shoes. Walking barefoot is an experience of mechanics, physical and mental strength, emotions, focus, poetry, and silence. In our area, thanks to a collaboration with Andrea Bianchi, there are several barefoot trails where you can try this unique experience.

Barefoot trails
Barefoot trails are paths that can be walked, at least in part, without shoes, and are suitable even for those new to barefoot hiking. In San Martino di Castrozza, three trails have been mapped and marked in collaboration with the Barefoot Academy “Il silenzio dei passi”, complete with video tutorials accessible via QR codes placed at the trailheads:
- Sentiero del Cervo – da Malga Ces (+250m | 3,2 km)
- Piani della Cavallazza – da Malga Ces (+470m | 6,3 km)
- Sentiero del Cacciatore - Maso Col (+370m | 4 km)
Among these, the Sentiero del Cervo is a true educational barefoot trail, especially suited for practicing barefoot walking in nature. Along the trail, stations with QR codes provide access to specific barefoot exercises to try on the spot.

Andrea Bianchi leads barefoot walking workshops throughout Italy, from the Dolomites to the Via Francigena, and is the reference point for barefoot hiking in Italy.
In 2017, he founded Il silenzio dei passi, Italy’s first barefoot hiking school, promoting barefoot walking as a psychophysical wellness practice accessible to everyone. It helps people reconnect with the Earth’s energies and learn to become internally light and silent.
On September 16, 2018, at Villa Welsperg in Val Canali, he set the world record for the longest barefoot line in the mountains, promoting a more respectful and mindful relationship with nature. A yoga scholar and practitioner, Andrea Bianchi works as an engineer, communication consultant, journalist, and founder/editor of the online magazine MountainBlog, one of the most followed websites about mountains and outdoor sports in Italy.
