The village of traditions

mezzano romantica

Mezzano, listed among The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy, lies near Fiera di Primiero and San Martino di Castrozza, preserving its rural identity with pride. Among narrow alleyways and intimate squares, the village unveils itself through themed routes dedicated to water, gardens, traditional architecture and ancient engravings: traces of a vibrant, authentic culture.
Here, the traditional wood piles become monumental works of art — tangible symbols of a deep relationship with nature and the passing of time. Framed by the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Nature Park and the Belluno Dolomites, Mezzano offers trails that lead travellers through untouched and moving landscapes, where every corner whispers stories of life, memory and timeless beauty.

"CATASTE E CANZEI"

WINTER WOOD STOCKS TURN INTO ART

In recent years, Mezzano — a true gem among Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages — rooted in the traditions of wood and mountain life, has filled with enchanting artistic wood piles.

Along the narrow streets, at the foot of ancient façades, beside wooden balconies, in small squares, courtyards, under stairways and on little terraces… the winter supply of logs transforms into beauty, taking on unexpected shapes: it recalls past events, reveals dreams, reinterprets history and narrates the lives of local families.

Every corner hides a surprise: a weeping face, a loom shuttle, a giant corn cob above the chicken coop, landscapes carved in wood like inlays, a folk song brought to life, giant flowers, tiny windows between the logs decorated with lace and cascades of geraniums…a whole village waiting to be discovered!

The "sedia rossa"

VIRTUAL REALITY? ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE? NOT AT ALL!

To truly get to know Mezzano, look for the "Sedia rossa" (Red Chair) hidden in the most charming corners of the village! When you find it, just ring the little bell resting on the seat — a resident will arrive to answer your questions and share the village’s history with 100% like-a-local anecdotes.

A one-of-a-kind experience: elderly residents, young people and skilled artisans offer their time to share stories of everyday life, give friendly advice and celebrate the art of storytelling and the beauty of slowing down.
