At the southernmost tip of the Primiero Valley, the Vette Feltrine rise like an impressive wall of rock.
This long mountain chain, culminating in the spectacular pyramid of Mount Pavione, marks the natural border between two regions – Trentino and Veneto – and the provinces of Trento and Belluno. From west to east, names such as Vallazza, Pavione, Col di Luna, Cima Dodici, Pietena and Ramezza trace a ridge that consistently exceeds two thousand metres, guarding the Val Noana like an ancient stronghold.
The charm of Mount Pavione
At 2,335 metres, Pavione is the highest and most distinctive peak of the Vette Feltrine: a perfect pyramid rising proudly on the Trentino side. On clear days, the view from its summit stretches far beyond the Dolomites – all the way to the Venetian Lagoon.
A wild and protected landscape
Like the nearby Pale di San Martino, the Vette Feltrine are also protected within a natural reserve: the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park, established in 1993, and the Vette Feltrine Nature Reserve. Here, nature reigns supreme — silent forests, alpine meadows, rare blooms and a thriving wildlife, from marmots to golden eagles. Walking along these trails means entering a world where time seems to flow more slowly.
How to reach and what to discover
There are two main access routes from Primiero: one starts from Vederne and climbs up to the summit of Pavione, offering breathtaking views; the other follows the Val Noana up to Rifugio Boz, nestled in a small clearing surrounded by peaks. Both itineraries offer an experience that combines nature, silence and endless horizons.
A crossroads of legends and trails
The Vette Feltrine also mark the final stretch of the Alta Via No. 2 – The Route of Legends, a multi-day trail connecting Feltre to Bressanone and crossing some of the most enchanting Dolomite valleys. It is a journey that, like an invisible thread, weaves together two regions, historic places and centuries of culture and tradition.
