An easy, family-friendly itinerary to discover the numerous ancient fruit trees along the Via Nova, which connects Pieve (Primiero San Martino di Castrozza) with Passo Gobbera. A fun treasure hunt immersed in nature, just a few kilometers from the villages of Primiero and near the charming towns of Mezzano and Imèr.
The Ancient Fruit Path was created by Maurizio Gaio and Slow Food Primiero, in collaboration with the Comunità di Valle.
The route mostly follows the existing Via Nova, connecting Pieve to Passo Gobbera, with a few deviations for access from Imèr and Mezzano. The area is rich in ancient fruit trees—pear, apple, cherry, and more—with over 40 cataloged along the route, all indicated on the map created by Maurizio.
The itinerary was designed to raise awareness among hikers about these often “forgotten” trees, which represent an important testimony to biodiversity and the traditional use of these sunny mid-altitude areas. Detailed information sheets, accessible via QR codes, provide further insights into the fruit tree species found along the trail.
