An itinerary suitable for all, in search of the many ancient fruit trees found along Via Nova, the route connecting Pieve (Primiero San Martino di Castrozza) with Passo Gobbera. A fun treasure hunt immersed in nature, just a few kilometres from the villages of Primiero and the small fractions of Mezzano and Imèr.
The Ancient Fruit Route was conceived by Maurizio Gaio and Slow Food Primiero, in collaboration with the Comunità di Valle.
The route largely follows the existing Via Nova, which connects Pieve to Passo Gobbera, with a few deviations from the main trail allowing access from Imèr and Mezzano. The area is rich in ancient fruit trees (pear, apple, cherry and others). More than 40 of these have been catalogued along the route, all marked on the map created by Maurizio.
The itinerary was designed to raise awareness among walkers of these often “forgotten” trees, which represent an important testimony to biodiversity and to the way these sunny mid-altitude slopes were used in the past. Information sheets, accessible via QR code, provide further details on the species of fruit trees encountered along the trail.
