Refuge of the CAI-SAT, it is built on a rocky terrace at the foot of the Cima della Madonna, with access from both San Martino di Castrozza and Val Canali.
A starting point for interesting hiking and mountaineering routes, the refuge has 54 beds. The "Velo della Madonna" is the north-west corner plane of the homonymous summit, where the exciting climbing of the "Spigolo del Velo" unfolds, certainly one of the "classics" of the Dolomites. The refuge can be reached from San Martino di Castrozza via the main access paths (713 and 721). There are also ferratas and equipped trails that connect it to the Val Canali or other shelters for exciting crossings in the heart of the Pale. Together with the other four shelters of the Pale di San Martino, it is part of the Palarondatrek project in the ferrata circuit.
