Near the pond is the "Palù grant", the large swamp, an area of great botanical and wildlife interest that is home to reeds and thistles, as well as the typical water straw.
It is one of the symbols of the Val Canali, where the decrease in slopes favors water stagnation. Today, the waters of this small lake reflect the scenery of the forests and the Pale di San Martino, a gift for the eyes due to the commitment of man: in fact, the Lords Welsperg wanted the lake, so they thought to embellish the surroundings of the villa built in the 19th century as a hunting lodge. Legend has it that in the vicinity of the pond and the ancient Castel Pietra once lived the "guane", mythological creatures with long blond hair, dressed in light, transparent clothing, who enchanted travellers with their provocative charm. You can reach the lake from Primiero either by the park shuttle or by car.
An excellent starting point for excursions on foot or by mountain bike in Val Canali.
