ATTENTION – Total Closure of the Brenner Corridor in Austria on May 30, 2026

Timetable and useful advice for travelers

Saturday, May 30, 2026, is expected to be a critical "black code" day for cross-border traffic. Due to a private demonstration formally registered with the authorities, the Brenner corridor will be completely paralyzed for most of the day within Austrian territory.

The Tyrolean government has already issued a strict warning: “Avoid traveling along this axis or bypass the area widely.” No local detours will be available.

Below are the detailed schedules, closures, and useful advice for motorists and truck drivers.

Timetable and Road Closures:

The gridlock will affect both the Austrian motorway and the surrounding secondary road network. Closures will begin mid-morning and last until evening:

  • A13 Motorway (Brenner Autobahn): total closure in both directions between the Schönberg toll station and the Brenner Pass.
  • Cars and Motorcycles: blocked from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
  • Trucks (Heavy Goods Vehicles): the ban starts earlier, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
  • Federal Roads B182 and L38: both routes will be totally closed to transit traffic from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Attention! The Brenner corridor will be literally impassable. Tyrolean authorities have confirmed that no local detours on secondary roads will be permitted, as these will be locked down to prevent the traffic collapse of surrounding villages.

Travel Advice:

  • Reschedule departures: if possible, it is highly recommended to advance your trip to Friday, May 29, or postpone it to Sunday, May 31.
  • Stay updated in real-time: before setting off, constantly monitor the official traffic channels of the Austrian motorway authority (ASFINAG) and the Province of Bolzano (South Tyrol Traffic Information Centre), as well as the variable message signs along the Italian A22 Brenner motorway.
  • Bring supplies on board: if you must travel in the hours immediately preceding or following the lockdown, ensure you have adequate supplies of food and water, especially if traveling with children or pets.
