Second stage of the Primiero Slow Tour that from Rifugio Cereda at Passo Cereda leads to Rifugio Caltena skirting the Pale Alte and Monte Padella

The itinerary starts from Passo Cereda heading to Malga Fossetta via trail 729. Once at the Malga, open with restaurant services in summer, continue bypassing Col Spiz on trail 723 until reaching the forest road leading to Domadoi. Just before the Domadoi meadows you intersect trail 744 which climbs leftwards into the woods. Following it, climb to a fork. Here two possibilities open: keeping left (marking 744) you reach 1850 m at the Cross of Monte Padella, then descend the opposite side of the mountain (still trail 744) to Rifugio Caltena. This option is more demanding but also more scenic as from the Monte Padella summit you enjoy a 360-degree panorama ranging from the Pale di San Martino to the Lagorai range, up to the Vette Feltrine and the nearby Cimonega group. Alternatively, from Malga Fossetta it is possible to take trail 729 which climbs to Passo del Palughet, then descend the opposite side to Baita Cogolate. From here continue on a forest road crossing all of Val Giasinozza until reaching a fork with signs for Rifugio Caltena, about 10 more minutes on foot. This itinerary is longer than the one climbing to Monte Padella's summit but technically easier.
