Primiero Dolomiti Festival: GREAT NEW YEAR'S CONCERT
SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA OF THE ALPS
Conductor: Stefano Torboli
The Orchestra of the Alps
Founded in 2015 as the symphonic orchestra of the Euritmus Association, the Orchestra of the Alps presents itself as one of the most interesting realities of the Italian musical scene, capable of expanding its repertoire by touching different styles and genres thanks to a flexible formation and a high-profile artistic staff. In this way, over the years, the Orchestra of the Alps has established itself in the reference territorial context as a lyrical reality proposing some of the most important masterpieces of melodrama such as Don Giovanni by W. A. Mozart, The Barber of Seville by G. Rossini, Don Pasquale by G. Donizetti, La Traviata, Rigoletto, Il Trovatore and Attila by Giuseppe Verdi, and Tosca, Madama Butterfly, La Boheme and Turandot by G. Puccini. Also by G. Verdi, in November 2024, they performed the famous Requiem Mass. Alongside the lyrical tradition, the Orchestra has tackled ambitious instrumental programs ranging from Baroque (A. Vivaldi) to Classicism (F. J. Haydn, W. A. Mozart, L. v. Beethoven), to Romanticism (F. Schubert, B. Smetana, C. Saint-Saens, M. Bruch, G. Bizet, M. Mussorgsky, P. I. Tchaikovsky, E. Grieg, A. Dvorak, J. Sibelius, A. Borodin) to the trends of the late nineteenth century up to Contemporaneity (P. Mascagni, P. Dukas, G. Holst, C. Orff, J. Rutter, M. Taralli). Of particular note is the extensive Viennese repertoire that includes both the best-known compositions by Johan Strauss father and those of his three sons Johann jr, Josef and Eduard Strauss. Particular attention has also been reserved for the rediscovery of masterpieces from 20th-century Italy. In this perspective lies the enhancement of Ottorino Respighi with the complete Roman Trilogy and of Riccardo Zandonai, with the performance of masterpieces such as the opera La Coppa del Re and the symphonic poem Rapsodia Trentina. The intense activity has led the Orchestra to perform in prestigious contexts, such as the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, the Sala Verdi in Milan, the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, the Teatro Dino Buzzati in Belluno, the Teatro Sociale in Trento, and the Teatro Zandonai in Rovereto, and has collaborated with dozens of artists among which stand out the names of ballerina Carla Fracci, conductors Jordi Bernacer, Lorenzo Tazzieri, Carlo Palleschi and Giuseppe Mengoli, directors Danilo Coppola and Luigi Orfeo, and singers Nicola Ulivieri, Marta Mari, Alessandro Abis, Romolo Tisano, Daniel Ihn-Kyu Lee, Julia Muzischenko, Michele Govi, Francesco Leone, just to name a few. On November 24, 2024, the Orchestra also debuted at the Musikverein in Vienna conducted by M° Etienne Siebens. Thanks to this intense activity, the Orchestra has attracted the interest of Festivals and Public Entities to the point of receiving the Patronage of Princess Muna al Hussein of Jordan in 2017 and the High Patronage of the Chamber of Deputies in 2021.
