TRENTINO CHAMBER CHOIR
The "Trentino Chamber Choir" from Borgo Valsugana (Trento), a women's vocal ensemble established in January 1998 within the workshops initiated by the Music School of Borgo, Levico, and Caldonazzo, carries out an intense concert activity and regularly participates in choral competitions in Italy and abroad. Among the achievements in this area, the 3rd absolute place at the 56th edition of the International Polyphonic Competition "Guido d’Arezzo" (2008) stands out, competing with mixed choirs, but it is also worth mentioning the second place at the Palazzo Pignano Polyphonic Competition in 2000, the second prize at the XXII National Polyphonic Competition "Guido d’Arezzo" (2005), the "Fascia d’Oro" for the "Polyphony" category in the 2003 and 2006 editions of the Quartiano Competition (Lodi), and, in the 2006 edition of this competition, the 1st place in the "Gospel and Spiritual" category; moreover, in 2010 it won the 15th edition of the "S. Zimarino" Prize in Vasto Marina. In the context of polyphonic competitions, the choir should also be remembered for its presence at the "Florilege Vocal de Tours" (France), the "C.A. Seghizzi" Competition (Gorizia), and the International "Fleischmann Trophy" Competition in Cork (Ireland). In addition to the classical and contemporary polyphonic repertoire, the choir is also able to propose a diverse program of Trentino folk songs, sometimes performed in the traditional costumes of the area, achieving the 2nd place at the Vittorio Veneto Competition (2012) and winning the National Competition of Verbania (2017). Throughout its activity, the ensemble has participated in important musical events in Trentino and in other Regions, such as "Sounds of the Dolomites" (with Petra Magoni and the Italian Virtuosi), "Fires in the Sky, Fires on Earth" (with Moni Ovadia and Mario Brunello), the International Choral Festival "La Fabbrica del Canto" in Legnano, the Regional Sacred Music Festival of Trento and Bolzano, Pergine Spettacolo Aperto, Asolomusica, the "Settenovecento" Festival in Rovereto, and more. The concert programs proposed by the Trentino Chamber Choir range from sacred to secular genres, a cappella or with piano accompaniment, from spirituals to gospels and mountain songs from the alpine tradition. Particular attention is given to the study of contemporary choral compositions for female choir by the most accredited Italian and foreign authors: in June 2022, this research led to the publication of the volume "Canticum novum," a collection of 20 unpublished pieces written for the Trentino Chamber Choir by as many contemporary composers. The Choir, which benefits from the instrumental collaboration of pianist Marco Rinaudo, was founded and is directed by M° Giancarlo Comar.
