Presentation of the book "The Discrete Memories of Books - The Personal Library of Alcide De Gasperi" by Ugo Pistoia.
Alcide De Gasperi was one of the leading figures in contemporary Italian history, as well as one of the founding fathers of the European federal process. Numerous studies have been produced about his figure and his political-intellectual biography.
A long list which also includes this volume that aims to provide scholars of the Trentino stateman's work with an additional service tool: the catalog of his personal library. This library, which originated around a small nucleus of books belonging to his brother Luigi Mario, developed starting from the late 19th century, gradually growing until 1954 and accompanying the entire human and political story in Habsburg Trentino through the activities of the Italian People's Party, from the imprisonment imposed by the fascists to the work at the Vatican Apostolic Library, from the birth of the Christian Democracy to the years 1943-1945, up to the tireless work for reconstruction.
The book collection belonging to Alcide De Gasperi thus offers a glimpse into tastes, literary preferences, study interests, cultural references, and relationships with other not only Italian protagonists of 20th-century history.
The author will be present.
