Giovanni Grasso presents “As Long as the Earth Endures” (Rizzoli).

A novel that entertains, moves, and disturbs. A deep yet light-hearted investigation that questions our need to believe and the necessity to doubt.

Self-deprecating and cultured, but hopelessly clumsy, Noè Simenoni is an unresolved man due to the fate that has played nasty tricks on him. An ex-seminarian, he leads a modest life, held together with difficulty, filled with frustrations, unbalanced accounts, and family responsibilities: a wild sister, Valeria, and a seriously ill niece, Greta, who is like a daughter to him in every way. When a powerful cardinal summons him to the Vatican and offers him a risky yet well-paid task, he realizes that his existence and that of his loved ones could be at a turning point. He will have to infiltrate a mysterious community, led by two unlikely prophets, obsessed with a new Deluge, where genuine feelings and psychological conditioning, mysticism, and very earthly interests intertwine. In the role of a secret agent in the service of His Holiness, he will be forced to pretend and lie, to accept continuous compromises with his conscience, and will end up getting himself into a sea of troubles.

Giovanni Grasso, journalist and writer, has been an advisor to the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, for press and communication since 2015. He is the author of numerous essays, including the biography of Piersanti Mattarella. For Rizzoli, he has published The Kaufmann Case (2019), Icarus. The Flight over Rome (2021), The Secret of Lieutenant Giardina (2023), and No One Sees Love (2024). He has also written for the theater.
