Ulysses, hero of the Achaeans with a protean mind, devised the stratagem of the Trojan Horse to end the ten years of siege on the city and finally conquer it. The victory allows him to set sail for home, to the island of Ithaca, but his fleet encounters various misfortunes and his journey leads him to confront supernatural threats, visit the Underworld, and take a long pause on the island of the nymph Calypso. Meanwhile, his son Telemachus, now grown up, tries to protect his mother Penelope and the throne of Ithaca from the suitors who advance as contenders for the queen left without a husband. Among them, Antinous, aided by Penelope's maidservant Melantho, dangerously schemes against Penelope.
