Twenty years have passed since Miranda Priestley ruled the fashion magazine Runway, and the world of print publishing has completely changed: internet competition is fierce, budgets are tight, and Miranda is forced to bow to the investors and designers whose ads determine the magazine’s fate, especially after Miranda publicly praised a fast fashion house that exploits child labor. To repair the damage to her image, the owner of Runway, Irv, calls in Andy Sachs, Miranda's former intern who has become a great journalist but has just lost her job due to cuts in publishing. Andy returns to Runway as the news director and reunites with the lovable Nigel, Miranda's right-hand man who is always looking out for the director. Emily, Andy's former colleague and frenemy, has become the director of Dior and is dating a sort of ugly but immensely wealthy Jeff Bezos.
