Below Cima della Madonna, this is the most recent refuge to be built from scratch by the SAT (Association of Trentino Mountaineers). Inaugurated in September 1980, it gets its name from the Spigolo del Velo, one of the finest classic climbs in the Dolomites: a 440-metre route, first climbed in 1920 and still attracting (skilled) climbers from around the world. Not far away, on the other side of Cima Cimerlo, in one of the remotest corners of the Pale di San Martino, is the protected path dedicated to Dino Buzzati, journalist (and writer) from Belluno who loved the Pale di San Martino more than any other Dolomitic group.
Open
