Passo Rolle

The long winter at Passo Rolle

The Passo Rolle ski area, 15 km of runs at over 2,000m altitude, has been welcoming for years the first winter skiers, opening its ski lift facilities before any other Dolomites resort. Natural and artificial snow usually allow to ski already at mid November and the season goes on until the whole of April.

Trail at Passo Rolle

Medium-length trail that meanders along gentle slopes in the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Nature Park. Start near Malga Rolle, 1 km from the pass.

The first part stretches on the pastures around the dairy farm and then enter a sparse spruce wood, the last strip of the "Foresta dei violini” (violin wood) of Paneveggio.
A steep stretch leads near Malga Costoncella and then to several gentle slopes and descents back to the starting point. Snow is usually provided naturally and in good quantity.

Given the limited drop (170 metres), this trail is also suitable for skiers with less experience: it is possible to often stop to admire the view and catch your breath as, at this altitude, you will feel the strain. Cross-country skiing equipment for hire at Passo Rolle.
The trail can be accessed free of charge.
