The Israeli double bass player, composer and arranger Omer Avital is a truly extraordinary instrumentalist. He has succeeded in incorporating various athnic influences which he absorbed in the course ao his musical development. His uniquely personal touch is characterised by intense vigour and dramatic force and honed with a striking natural talent for jazz. This has led a critic of the calibre of the New York Times journalist Ben Ratliff to compare him with all-time greats of the double bass such as Charles Mingus and William Parker. Resident in the USA since the early 1990s, Avital has played with top musicians including Roy Haynes, Al Foster and Kenny Garrett.
He has also influential in the development of the new jazz scene, working with up-and-coming artists such as Mark Turner, Joshua Redman and Brand Mehldau. He is joined an this tour by four of the very finest musician on the contemporary American scene.
