Val Venegia Set at over 1,800 m altitude, just under the Pale rocks and near Passo Rolle, it is the jewel in the crown of the Nature Park. Its name comes from Venice: in the past centuries timber from these woods used to be sent to the Serenissima's yards.
Century old woods, majestic peaks, rustic mountain dairies, high altitude pastures, icy water torrents: that's Val Venegia, loved by trekkers for its unrivalled scenery and by botanists for its extraordinary rich flora.
Rough and severe in its upper part, the landscape of is characterized by the "organ pipes" of Cima Canali, the thousand needles of Cimerlo, the impressive vertical wall of , the dedrital ravines descending from the Altopiano, and the grassy slopes on the rocks, reign to the chamois.
Lower down, the Val Canali is wide and sunny, with large meadows, red fir and larch woods, mountain huts, small lakes and torrents. The entry to the valley is dominated by Castel Pietra: the seat of feudal power since time immemorial, it is today reduced to a ruin full of mystery and charm. Val Canali is one of the "doors" to the Park and hosts Villa Welsperg , old hunting residence of the feudal counts, now housing the Park premises and the visitors centre.
